Folic Acid And Pregnancy

What is folic acid
Folic acid helps form healthy cells. The body needs more vitamins when growth is faster, such as during pregnancy or when the fetus is developing.

Folic acid sources
Folic acid or pteriol acid, glutamic L , vitamin B9 or Folocina is necessary forproteins formation  and hemoglobin. It is found in the animals' viscera  all leafy greens, brewers yeast, dried legumes, whole grains and nuts, such as almonds, as well as fortified foods.

Folic acid is lost in foods stored at room temperature and during cooking. A woman before and during pregnancy should maintain folic acid high levels.

Folic acid health benefits
Research has shown that if all women who could become pregnant take a multivitamin with folic acid, the risk of having a baby with defects in neural tube  ( the part where the nervous system originates) such as spina bifida, could be reduced to 70 percent .

Since spina bifida occurs early in pregnancy, often before a woman knows that she is pregnant, it is important to take folic acid every day. Taking folic acid before and during early pregnancy reduces the spina bifida  risk  and other neural tube defects.

Some foods have also been added, folic acid, as in the case of certain breakfast cereals and other grains and bread products . A diet rich in folic acid is important , but the typical food in the United States does not provide enough . The surest way to get the folic acid daily amount  you need is  taking a vitamin that containing folic acid.

How much folic acid do I need ?

The National Council on Folic Acid ( NCFA ) invites the women to follow the recommendations on folic acid that did the Public Health Service of the U.S. 1992 : Women who have the ability to become pregnant should take 400 mcg (micrograms ) of folic acid through a vitamin.

Women who have an increased risk of spina bifida ( women who have a child with spina bifida who have had a pregnancy affected by spina bifida or they themselves have spina bifida) should take 4000 mcg of folic acid prescribed by doctor, for one to three months before becoming pregnant, this amount is also written as follows: 4.0 mg So it is important that these women make a plan before become pregnant.
